The city takes the top spot as Grealish and Haaland star in a win over the Wolves

Manchester City was held to a 0-0 draw at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers despite two first-half goals from Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.

The visitors took the lead just before half-time when a close-range finish from Adnan Januzaj was swept away by goalkeeper Ederson Moraes.

But after a slow start to their league campaign, the champions bounced back with goals from Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne to seal the victory.

Wolves’ loss was their fifth defeat in five matches in all competitions, while City remains unbeaten since they lost 5-1 to Tottenham Hotspur last month.

“It wasn’t good enough – we didn’t get chances and we don’t deserve anything,” said Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
“We started well then fell asleep and couldn’t react to any danger.”

The result meant City climbed above their rivals to second place in the Premier League table, albeit having played fewer games than leaders Liverpool.

However, they face a huge test when they travel to Anfield to play Jurgen Klopp’s side in the weekend’s early kickoff.
Sterling opened the scoring on 15 minutes when he slotted past Matt Macey after being put clean through.

He doubled his tally midway through the first half with a low shot from outside the area, although Wolves did not concede again until late.

Januzaj had a chance to make it 2-0 in front of the goal but his effort struck the crossbar.
De Bruyne added a third soon afterward from a free kick 25 yards out, turning in a cross from Bernardo Silva to complete the rout.

Ayoze Perez was denied by Macey in stoppage time following a corner, but the Wolves could not find an equalizer.
“I’m proud of my players; they gave everything,” said Silva.
